Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Thank you for using Snipix. This Privacy Policy applies to the Snipix website (snipix.net) and the browser extension (collectively, the “Service”). It explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and how you can manage your data.
Snipix follows a local-first principle: the element content you capture on a web page is processed on your own device and in your browser by default, and is not uploaded to Snipix servers. Snipix requires no registration, no sign-in, and involves no payment.
1. Information We Collect
Snipix is designed to collect as little personal information as possible:
- Captured content (website content): When you pick an element on a web page, the extension temporarily reads that element’s HTML structure, computed styles (getComputedStyle), and the URLs of resources it references (images, fonts, etc.), and packages them into a self-contained HTML fragment. This content is stored only in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) and is then passed to the Snipix editor page via page messaging for you to preview and export. It is not uploaded to or saved on our servers.
- User preferences: The extension uses browser/extension storage to save your capture preferences (such as resource mode and style-trimming options). These stay local.
- Account / payment information: None. Snipix has no account system and charges no fees, so we do not collect names, email addresses, passwords, or any payment information.
- Technical and diagnostic information: When you visit snipix.net, servers and security systems may routinely record IP address, browser type, device information, request time, and error logs to keep the website secure and to troubleshoot issues.
2. Browser Permissions and Local Processing
To fulfil its single purpose (capturing web-page elements), the extension requests the following permissions, and uses them only when you actively trigger a capture:
- activeTab / scripting: When you click the extension and choose “Start picking”, it injects the picker and extraction scripts into the current active tab to highlight, select, and read the target element. Injection happens only on your action, never in the background.
- storage: To temporarily save the capture result and your preferences on your device.
- tabs: To identify the current active tab for script injection, and to open the Snipix editor page after a capture. The extension does not read or monitor your browsing history.
- Host permissions (<all_urls>): So you can capture elements on any website. Scripts are injected into the current page only when you trigger a capture; the extension does not access sites or collect data across sites in the background.
Local processing: Element capture, style reading, and HTML-fragment generation are all performed on your device. If the captured content references remote images, fonts, or other online resources, your browser will request those resources from their servers under those servers’ own privacy policies.
3. How We Use Information
- Provide the core features of capturing a web element and previewing and exporting it as a self-contained HTML fragment;
- Save your preferences so the extension and website give a consistent experience on later visits;
- Keep the Service secure, troubleshoot issues, and prevent abuse and unauthorized access;
- (On the website) analyze overall traffic to improve performance and stability.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties except in the following cases:
- Sharing is necessary to provide the advertising, security, or similar services described above;
- You explicitly authorize or ask us to share it;
- Sharing is required to comply with applicable law, court orders, or regulatory requirements, or to protect the legitimate rights and interests of users, the public, and Snipix.
5. Data Retention
- Captured web-page content stays only in your browser’s local storage and is not uploaded or saved by us. You can clear it at any time in the extension, or uninstall the extension to delete local data; as a result we cannot (and need not) restore, export, or delete that content for you.
- Website server logs and diagnostic information are retained only for the period needed for security, troubleshooting, and compliance, then deleted or anonymized.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- You can disable or uninstall the extension in your browser at any time, or clear extension storage, cache, and website cookies.
- You can contact us via the details below with questions about data processing related to the Service, or to withdraw consent for non-essential data processing.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children below the legal age. If you believe a minor has provided personal information to us without guardian consent, please contact us and we will take appropriate action after verification.
8. International Processing
The service providers and infrastructure we use may be located outside your country or region. By using the Service, you understand that relevant information may be processed and stored in different regions in accordance with applicable law.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect service data, including access controls, encrypted transmission, and data minimization. However, no internet service can be absolutely secure, and you should also protect your own devices and browser.
10. Privacy Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date on this page and, where appropriate, by notice on the website or in the extension. Continued use of the Service means you understand the updated policy.
